As we edge closer and closer to spring and the hills turn green, we’re on the hunt for something new and fresh with this week’s new music. And, we’ve found some worthy Krush’s Perfect Blend.
Norah Jones is on a roll. She’s just released her 4th studio album back in November. She has been asked to join the line-up at Bonnaroo this year! The festival will take place June 10-13, 2010 in Manchester, TN. She’ll also play some select dates on the popular Lillith Fair this summer. “It’s Gonna Be” is the selection this week from that 4th album “The Fall” and it’s coming off the hugely popular “Chasing Pirates” single.
Austin based Indie Rock band Spoon returns to the Perfect Blend with a great new song called “Written In Reverse.” This is a unique band that probably tried to actually write a song or two in reverse before. Despite an awful experience in the late 90s with a major record label, Spoon has been together since 1993 and have made 7 albums, plus EPs and compilations. They’ve figured out how to do it their own way. Don’t the good ones always do.
Already a huge sensation in their native Australia, the John Butler Trio, is making waves stateside. “One Way Road” is the first single from “April Uprising,” the bands 5th CD which is out April 6th. Listen close as the words fly as fast as John Butler’s guitar licks in this groove. Butler, by the way, moved to Australia at the age of 11. He was born in Torrence, Ca.
Ryan Bingham is the most unlikely guy to be mixing it up in Hollywood at the Golden Globes or this weekend’s Oscars. Recently, I read an article about his humorous take on the whole scene. Ryan is raw, real, and rough around the edges. He is the opposite of Hollywood. But, it is nice to see his collaboration with T. Bone Burnett for the highly praised movie “Crazy Heart” get some notice. In fact this song, “The Weary Kind (Theme From Crazy Heart)” won the Golden Globe and is up for the Oscar this weekend. Ryan says the song is inspired by the many characters, like the ones in the movie, he has seen out on the road.
From her recently released CD “The Sea,” Corinne Bailey Rae gives us “The Blackest Lily.” She grew up around music and experimented with different forms. She took a job in college at the University of Leeds in the UK at a Jazz club and she found her sound. Two albums now, two Grammys later, she is skyrocketing.
