ll-resize-1

Today during Liquid Lunch we had Joe Barton of Grey Wolf and Barton Family Wines, and Coby Parker-Garcia of El Lugar Wines to talk about Harvest 2019 on the Central coast! ALSO, special guest Sean Sherman of Golden Apple Cannabis is in the HOUSE!

Barton Family Wines

Joe Barton is the owner and Head Winemaker at Grey Wolf Cellars and Barton Family Wines. His parents, Joe Sr. and Shirlene Barton started the winery over 20 years ago in 1994, following their dream of owning a winery and building a family business for future generations to come. Joe Jr. attended Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo as a fruit science major and was tasked at the age of 23 with carrying on the family legacy and dream after his father tragically passed in 1997.

He has made it his life mission the past 24 years to create a distinct style, sourcing from dry-farmed vineyards in the Paso Robles Willow Creek, Templeton Gap and Adelaida District AVAs. Farming is the core of his business. Understanding the unique microclimates of Paso Robles distinct AVAs identifies the best location for growing a variety of wines with regional character. Focusing on making hand-crafted wines from specific sites creates a dynamic portfolio of wines. He works with a selection of wine varieties including the heritage varietal Zinfandel, the classic Bordeaux varieties like Cabernet Sauvignon, both Rhone red and whites as well as some Spanish varieties.

Barton finds each vineyard offering a distinct character to the wine which complement each variety. His humble beginnings and hard work have brought him exactly what he wants – to make wines that represent Paso Robles. After twenty years of winemaking, he’s still captivated by tractors, bud break and turning fruit into wine.

El Lugar Wines

Coby Parker- Garcia and his wife, Katie Noonan, along with their daughter Callie, have a combined 25+ years of experience in the wine industry here on the beautiful Central Coast of CA. Coby Parker-Garcia has been making wines for 12 years and fell in love with Pinot Noir long ago and dreamed of creating high quality Pinot Noir from well known vineyards and AVA’s. In 2013 they took a leap of faith and made that dream come true by producing their first vintage of the two vineyard designate Pinot Noir’s.

Katie and Coby met through working at neighboring wineries and instantly shared a combined passion for good wines, especially Pinot Noir.  Katie’s background in the industry stems from 10 years in the marketing and direct to consumer side of the business, so with combined passions and experience, El Lugar was born!

Golden Apple Cannabis

Shawn Sherman and his wife Brooke began cultivating cannabis with the help of family over a decade ago. With a science degree from the University of Southern California, Shawn took his capabilities from the research world and applied them to everything cannabis. Shawn finds himself heavily immersed in helping educate local policy makers and the community. He is also a founding member of the local cannabis industry association, the Central Coast Cannabis Council.

With a background as a veterinary technician and a devoted yoga practice, Brooke has always preferred a natural way of healing. Naturally, she began creating cannabis derived tinctures and topicals for their animals, friends, and family.

Together with their dog Carl, Shawn and Brooke live on the Central Coast and love to contribute to the small-town vibe and friendly-welcoming atmosphere!
